Legal Experience
Mary Jane Broussard represents clients in connection with complex transactional matters, with an emphasis in the real estate and energy industries. Her particular experience includes energy project development, financings and refinancings; acquisition, leasing, operation and disposition of commercial office, resort and multi-use properties; and financing for real estate development projects and property acquisitions. In connection with her project finance experience, Ms. Broussard has represented project owners, as well as equity investors and institutional lenders in connection with electric generation, transmission and distribution assets and companies.
Specific Experience
- Legal due diligence in connection with acquisition bids for energy related assets and companies
- Preparation, negotiation and coordination of documentation associated with development, acquisition and finance of electric generation facilities, including construction financing, conversion to permanent financing and bond refinancing
- Representation of institutional lenders and equity participants power project investments
- Representation and coordination of multi-state real property acquisitions
- Acquisition and disposition of improved properties, including office buildings, resort properties, golf course communities, multi-family and multi-use developments
- Preparation, negotiation and advice regarding office, retail and industrial lease arrangements
- Counseling regarding operation and maintenance of commercial properties
- Dispute resolution among property owners, tenants and institutional lenders
- Management and coordination of pre-development and pre-acquisition due diligence
- Financing of real estate development activities and acquisitions

- Development and financing of 1,220 megawatt combined cycle electric generating facility and transmission assets based in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma (2001)
- Development and financing of 845 megawatt combined cycle electric generating facility in Rusk County, Texas (1999)
- Financing of 632 megawatt coal fired electric generating facility in Victoria and Goliad Counties, Texas (2006)
- Financing of two wind powered facilities with combined 216 megawatt capacity in Taylor County, Texas (2005)
- Acquisition of historically significant office building in Seattle, Washington (2005)
- Disposition of approximately 85 multi-state mental health facilities (2000-2002)
- Acquisition of Austin Centre, a combined hotel, office and facility, Austin, Texas (1998)
- Acquisition of $380 million portfolio consisting of 14 office buildings (total square feet - 3,000,000), 14 tracts of land, 2 multi-family projects, oil and gas interests, partnership interests (including an interest in the Dallas Mavericks) and a construction equipment leasing company (1997)
- Acquisition of an 8,000-acre residential and country club development in Scottsdale, Arizona (1997)
