Careers » Lateral Attorneys

Our firm continually focuses on serving the best interests of our clients while adjusting and responding to ever-changing market conditions impacting our clients. Thus, attracting and retaining superior attorneys and professional staff  is one of the many ways we further enhance our legal offerings to clients.

Brown McCarroll understands the importance and value of providing attorneys with an atmosphere which encourages and promotes professional growth and individual success. We offer our attorneys the opportunity to exchange ideas and collaborate with other highly skilled contemporaries.

In order to create such an environment, Brown McCarroll focuses on providing attorneys a flexible, progressive, diverse, and collegial workplace, while offering resources that mirror or exceed those larger firms offer.

Compensation and Benefits

Brown McCarroll strives not only to recruit and retain creative and thoughtful professionals, but also to compensate professionals in such a way that they are encouraged to become long-term employees of our firm. The following benefits may be available:

  • Medical
  • Dental
  • Life insurance
  • Short and long-term disability
  • Section 125 cafeteria plan
  • 401(k)
  • Payment of Texas Bar and American Bar Association dues
  • Opportunities to attend continuing legal education seminars

Our attorneys manage their own time in order to ensure they meet the billable hours requirement set each year.  As such, they set their own leave by taking time off for vacation, illness or personal commitments as needed.

For those who have just graduated from law school, we cover bar review and exam as well as other related expenses.

Professional Development

Continuing professional development is a critical component of our success. We attract and retain professionals who understand and appreciate the importance of on-going advanced legal training. Our attorneys immerse themselves in areas of key importance to our clients and the marketplace as a whole. The firm is committed to supporting and budgeting for such critical educational efforts, including participation in industry and professional associations where we gain valuable understanding of the challenges facing our clients.

Seasoned lateral attorneys can expect to join a firm in which their voices are heard and ideas are welcomed and considered by firm leadership. The firm’s management and practice group leaders are open and receptive to progressive ideas related to professional development.  Further, our attorneys set aside time to plan, organize, and attend the firm’s longstanding attorney retreat for purposes of brainstorming and developing strategies to address important issues of concern to the firm, including career advancement programs.

Associates interested in further honing and refining the critical legal skills of persuasive writing and oral communications, research proficiency, and client counseling are welcome and nurtured here. We look for ambitious, talented individuals who take on new challenges quickly and prove their value as part of our partnership.

Our organized practice groups provide many opportunities throughout the year to promote successful integration into our firm. These meetings and other activities allow our newest colleagues to quickly assimilate and become familiar with other attorneys within our firm, as well as their skill sets, knowledge and experience. In addition, these events provide openings for new arrivals to communicate to others about their own skills and talents.

Partnership

Brown McCarroll has a formal annual process for reviewing associates for partnership. This process considers such factors as work quality, dependability, work ethic, ability to generate, manage and keep legal business, participation in firm affairs, and personal productivity.
